Destination Wedding, do you know what it is?

Destination weddings are weddings celebrated in a country or city different from the place of origin or origin of the bride and groom. When couples think of a destination wedding they want to have and offer their guests a unique experience, where to mix the unforgettable joy of a truly special wedding with the possibility of sightseeing in that region.

Normally they are spaces that the bride and groom are in love with, as happens to many foreigners who come to visit Seville, Granada, Córdoba, Cádiz… Andalusia in general. They end up falling in love and getting married here.

And the fact is that the South of Spain offers great possibilities for a Destination Wedding for many brides and grooms. Its climate, architecture, monuments, culture, gastronomy and of course its cheaper cost than in other regions make Andalusia the perfect place for a Destination Wedding.

Destination weddings are usually smaller and more intimate, as guests bear the cost of travel, which means fewer people attend. It is also true that they serve as an excuse to travel and sightsee in the city or region chosen for the destination wedding.

Imagine getting married with views of the Alhambra, in an old Jewish synagogue, or with one of the incredible sunsets on a beach in Cadiz, or in an ancient mosque surrounded by nature… Andalusia offers all this for your destination wedding: Haciendas, Cortijos, Fincas, Casas Palacios, Terraces with unique views, Castles, Bullrings, emblematic places or in the middle of nature.

What should you consider when choosing the right destination for your wedding?

1.- Be in love with that destination, place,…. If not, there is no point in having a destination wedding there, don’t you think?

2.- To have an approximate global budget for the organization of the wedding in that place. The best way to do this is to hire a wedding planner at the destination.

Take into account the transportation connections, since your guests will probably come from many different points, so bet on destinations with easy communication, especially from the airport and train.

4.- Legal formalities to get married in Spain in a destination wedding.

  • If your wedding is a Catholic ceremony, you must bear in mind that you must have been confirmed. Then you will just need to speak to your parish diocese to start gathering the required documents. However, the documentation takes more than 6 months to complete, so don’t leave it to the last minute.
  • If you are having a civil wedding, it is best to hold the celebration in your hometown. Then you can have a symbolic ceremony at your destination wedding. For example, in Spain you need to be living in Spain for at least 2 years to be able to get married in Spain in a destination wedding.
